The Ugly Duckling

It is summer.

Mother duck has got six eggs.

Five eggs break and five yellow ducklings come out.

But the sixth egg doesn’t break.

"Oh dear! This egg is very big," says mother duck.

Later, the sixth egg breaks. A big grey duckling comes out. "Oh no! This duckling is ugly!" shouts mother duck.

"Come on, ducklings. Let’s go and visit the hen,"

says mother duck.

She looks at the ugly duckling and she says,

"Walk behind your brothers and sisters.

I don’t want anybody to see you.

You’re ugly!"

The ugly duckling is sad.

The hen sees the ducklings.

She sees the ugly duckling too.

The hen laughs.

"Look! That duckling is silly!" says the hen.

"He has got short legs. He’s grey.

His beak is silly.

He’s an ugly duckling!"

Everybody laughs.

The ugly duckling is very sad.

Next, they approached Samantha the turtle, who was sunbathing on a nearby rock. Oliver and Peter explained their problem, and Samantha thought for a moment. With her sturdy shell, she offered to carry Oliver to the lily. Oliver eagerly climbed on Samantha's back, and she slowly swam towards the lily. But alas, they were still a little too far.

Feeling a bit disheartened, Oliver sat near the pond, wondering how he could ever reach the golden lily. Suddenly, a delicate butterfly named Lily fluttered by. Seeing Oliver's sad face, she asked what was wrong. Oliver shared his story, and Lily had an idea.

She gently landed on Oliver's nose and whispered, "Close your eyes and make a wish." Oliver closed his eyes tightly and wished with all his might to reach the lily. When he opened his eyes, he couldn't believe what he saw.

The pond had magically transformed into a shallow pool, and the golden lily was just within Oliver's reach. Overwhelmed with joy, Oliver plucked the lily and held it close to his heart. He thanked Lily and hugged his friends, Peter and Samantha, for their efforts.

From that day forward, Oliver learned the importance of friendship, perseverance, and the power of wishes. He kept the golden lily as a reminder of the magical adventure he had experienced. And whenever he looked at it, he was filled with gratitude for the wonderful friends he had made.
