What is symbiosis?
Symbiosis is a biological phenomenon where two different species live together in close association, often benefiting each other. It is a mutually beneficial relationship that can occur between organisms of the same species (intraspecific symbiosis) or different species (interspecific symbiosis). In symbiotic relationships, the organisms involved rely on each other for survival, reproduction, or other advantages.
Example of symbiosis:
One example of symbiosis is the relationship between bees and flowers. Bees rely on flowers for nectar, which is their source of food. When bees visit flowers to collect nectar, they inadvertently transfer pollen from the male parts of one flower to the female parts of another flower, enabling pollination and fertilization. This benefits both the bees and the flowers. Bees get food, while flowers get their pollen spread, allowing them to reproduce and produce seeds.
Another example is the relationship between clownfish and sea anemones. Clownfish live among the tentacles of sea anemones, which provide them with protection from predators. In return, clownfish help sea anemones by removing parasites and providing them with nutrients through their waste. This mutualistic relationship benefits both species.
These examples illustrate how symbiosis can occur in nature, where different organisms form close associations that result in mutual benefits.
