Для чего рыбе anableps четыре глаза

Ответы на вопрос

What are the four eyes of the fish anableps for?" in English.
The fish anableps, also known as the four-eyed fish, does not actually have four eyes, but each eye is split into two lobes by a horizontal band of tissue, each lobe with its own pupil and separate vision. This allows the fish to see above and below the surface of the water at the same time. The upper (dorsal) half of the eye is adapted for vision in air, the lower (ventral) half for vision in water.
The four-eyed fish lives in brackish water mangrove forests, where it swims near the surface and feeds on insects, spiders, and other small animals that fall into the water. The ability to see both in and out of water helps the fish to find food, avoid predators, and communicate with other members of its species. The fish also has a preference for mating with individuals that have the same eye orientation as itself, which is determined by the direction of the genital papilla. This means that there are right-handed and left-handed four-eyed fish, and they only mate with their own kind.
