Сочинский национальный парк был создан в 1983 году и стал одним из первых национальных парков России. На огромной территории в горах, размеры которой достигают 190 тысяч гектаров, была прекращена любая производственная деятельность. Эта земля была передана гражданам России для оздоровительных и туристских целей.  ( СКАЗАНО ПО ИНТЕРНЕТУ))))Для охраны природы здесь созданы 15 лесничеств. В национальном парке реализуется программа по восстановлению популяции переднеазиатского леопарда в дикой среде. В 2013 в парке впервые в России в неволе у пары леопардов появилось потомство.
