How Fog and Rain Form (in Simple Terms for 2nd Graders)
Fog Formation: Fog is formed when the air becomes cooler and cannot hold its moisture, causing the water vapor to condense into tiny water droplets. This happens when warm, moist air comes into contact with a cooler surface or when the air cools down at night. The tiny water droplets then form a fog that we see as a thick mist close to the ground.
Rain Formation: Rain is formed when water droplets in the clouds join together and become too heavy to stay in the air. These heavy droplets fall to the ground as rain. The process of rain formation starts with water evaporating from the Earth's surface and rising into the air. As the water vapor rises, it cools and forms clouds. Inside the clouds, the water droplets join together and eventually become heavy enough to fall as rain.
So, in simple terms, fog forms when warm air meets a cooler surface and tiny water droplets condense, while rain forms when water droplets in the clouds join together and become heavy enough to fall to the ground.
