Ока - типичная равнинная река европейской части России – является одной из крупнейших в Калужской области. На всем своем протяжении Ока образует множество речных рукавов и пойменных озер - стариц, идеально подходящих для рыбной ловли.
Имеет три крупных притока: Угра, Жиздра и Протва, а также более сотни мелких рек, впадающих ниже по течению.

Русло более 200 километров длиной, мало извилистое, местами образующее крутые повороты, берёт начало в Орловской области, собирает притоки из пятнадцати областей Центральной России и впадает в Волгу рядом с Нижним Новгородом.
В среднем глубина Оки колеблется от 1 до 3 метров, после впадения трех основных притоков ее русло значительно расширяется, а глубина достигает 6 метров.
Практически все дно реки песчаное, а прозрачность воды составляет 50 сантиметров.

Снежный покров главный источник питания реки. Ледостав держится с декабря до начала апреля. В весенний период уровень воды повышается на 8 - 10метров.

Основной промысловой рыбой в Оке является лещ, за ним идут плотва, густера и чехонь.
В низовьях в изобилии водятся судак, жерех, щука, язь и голавль, а на перекатах (их на Оке великое множество) встречаются подуст и елец.
В заводях можно встретить сома, а еще на песчаных отмелях водится стерлядь.

Зима на Оке мягкая, с небольшими перепадами температур, а лето сухое и не жаркое..
