Анкт - Петербург основан 16 мая 1703 года Петром I. Это важный исторический, научный и культурный центр России.

8 мая 1965 года городу было присвоено звание "Города-героя" за мужество и героизм проявленные в годы войны. В 1941г. город был отрезан от Большой земли. Началась блокада города на Неве, которая продолжалась 872 дня.
Символом страшной блокадной поры стал дневник маленькой ленинградки Тани Савичевой. Детская рука, теряющая силы от голода писала:" Бабушка умерла, умер дядя Вася, мама умерла. Савичевы умерли. Умерли все. Осталась одна Таня». Дневник Тани Савичевой сегодня выставлен в музее истории Ленинграда, а его копия — в витрине одного из павильонов Пискарёвского мемориального кладбища.
