Усадьба на живописном берегу реки, тенистые аллеи парка, классическая архитектура господского дома и живописный пруд с беседкой на островке. Здесь - малая Родина поэта. Овстуг! Меж невысоких пологих холмов, в окаймлении лесистых оврагов, в низких берегах течет речка Овстуженка, малый приток реки Десны. Заливные луга перемежаются с зарослями ольхи, осины, ивняка и дарят разнообразием перспектив - благородной красотой окружающего ландшафта. 
Овстуг! В архивных материалах он упоминается с 16 в., но раскопки археологов уточняют, что еще во II в. До н.э. селились здесь племена северян, вятичей и родимичей. Название села пришло из той давней языческой поры.

"Стуг" - стоянка, поселение. 
"Овстуг" - знакомая, старая стоянка.
 А по соседству, в пяти километрах от села - земли древнего Вщижского княжества. Язычество, православие и современность - затейливо и своеобразно переплелись на земле этой. Старая истина - чем древнее памятник культуры, искусства, археологии, тем ярче горит в нем огонь творческой глубинной мудрости. А на земле, родившей его, не только озаряет, но и согревает душу творца, одаривая новым торжеством открытий - слова, красок, форм, мелодий. Вот и спешат в места тютчевские - художники, поэты, скульпторы и мыслители.
Искра Божия вдохновения, осознания, озарения нисходит в души чуткие, ранимые, сопричастные испытаниям века нашего. Усадьба поэта не перестает быть духовной "Меккой" творческой интеллигенции. В современном культурном сознании Государственный мемориальный историко-литературный музей-заповедник "Овстуг" неразрывно связан с личностью и творчеством великого поэта, философа, лирика, мыслителя - Федора Ивановича Тютчева.
