Rules for Pedestrian Safety

As a pedestrian, it is important to follow certain rules to ensure your safety while crossing the road, whether it is at a regulated or unregulated pedestrian crossing. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

1. Regulated Pedestrian Crossing: - Approach the pedestrian crossing and wait for the traffic signal to indicate that it is safe to cross. - Look both ways for oncoming traffic before stepping onto the crossing. - Cross the road in a straight line, without running or stopping in the middle of the crossing. - If the signal changes to a flashing red hand or a solid red hand, do not start crossing. Finish crossing if you have already started. - Do not cross the road when the signal shows a solid red hand.

2. Unregulated Pedestrian Crossing: - Approach the crossing and make eye contact with drivers to ensure they see you. - Look both ways for oncoming traffic before stepping onto the crossing. - Cross the road in a straight line, without running or stopping in the middle of the crossing. - Be cautious and aware of vehicles that may not stop for pedestrians. - If there is heavy traffic, wait for a safe gap before crossing.

Rules for Passengers

As a passenger in a vehicle, it is important to follow certain rules to ensure your safety and contribute to a safe driving environment. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

1. Wearing Seatbelts: - Always wear your seatbelt when inside a moving vehicle, regardless of whether you are sitting in the front or back seat. - Ensure that all passengers in the vehicle are also wearing their seatbelts.

2. Avoid Distracted Behavior: - Avoid distracting the driver with loud conversations, excessive movement, or other activities that may divert their attention from the road. - Do not use electronic devices, such as cell phones or tablets, while the vehicle is in motion.

3. Observe Traffic Rules: - Follow all traffic rules and regulations, including speed limits, stop signs, and traffic signals. - Be aware of and respect the rights of other road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

Rules for Cyclists

As a cyclist, it is important to follow certain rules to ensure your safety and the safety of others on the road. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

1. Observe Traffic Rules: - Follow all traffic rules and regulations, including traffic signals, stop signs, and speed limits. - Ride in the same direction as the flow of traffic. - Use designated cycling lanes or paths when available.

2. Use Hand Signals: - Use hand signals to indicate your intentions to other road users. - Extend your left arm straight out to indicate a left turn. - Extend your right arm straight out to indicate a right turn. - Extend your left arm downward with your palm facing backward to indicate a stop.

3. Be Visible: - Wear bright and reflective clothing to increase your visibility to other road users. - Use lights and reflectors on your bicycle, especially when riding at night.

Remember, following these rules and guidelines will help ensure your safety as a pedestrian, passenger, or cyclist, and contribute to a safer road environment for everyone. Stay alert, be cautious, and respect the rights of others on the road.
