Маттео и его жена уехали. Дома остался лишь их сын. В дом попросился один человек. Ему было нужно спрятаться от полиции. Он дал мальчику золотой и тот спрятал его в сене. В дом пришли полицейские. Капитан полиции, дядя этого мальчика, спросил :"Не проходил ли здесь  преступник?"Мальчик промолчал, но дядя обещал дать ему за информацию часы на цепочке. Мальчик колебался, но подумав о блестящей выгоде, сдался и указал место, где прятался беглый. Полицейские забрали его. Маттео ,придя домой, застал эту сцену. За предательство отец наказал мальчика выстрелом из ружья. Недостойно иметь такого сына.
