Ilya Muromets' Three Journeys

Ilya Muromets is one of the most famous bogatyrs (warriors) in Russian folklore. According to legends, he undertook three major journeys to help defeat enemies and protect Rus lands.

First Journey

The first journey of Ilya Muromets took place to defeat the invader Tugarin Zmeyevich. Tugarin was a giant evil dragon-man who regularly attacked Rus lands. Third Journey

The third and final journey of Ilya Muromets was to defeat the Tatar-Mongol invaders. By this time, Ilya was an old man but still powerful. He helped the Rus princes defeat the Tatars in a great battle. This marked the end of Ilya's heroic deeds and journeys according to the legends
