Так характеризует деда Тимофея Шукшин в своем рассказе «Критики».  Особенно задевали деда «деревенские» фильмы.  Дело было не в невежестве, а  в неискушенности искусством старика. Будучи с молодости справедливым и совестливым человеком, дед остро чувствовал «фальшь» в фильмах. Этой фальшью было то, что сейчас бы критики назвали «неточностью образа». Деду казалось, что плотника в фильме должен играть человек, знакомый с инструментом не понаслышке. Драться до настоящей крови и в полную силу. Старому человеку неведомо было понятие роль, в то время кинематограф воспринимался многими как летопись реальной жизни.  Людям, в число которых входил  дед Тимофей, верилось, что все, увиденное ими в фильмах, происходит где-то на самом деле.
