Летчик, гвардии старший лейтенант, в годы Великой Отечественной войны потерявший ступни обеих ног из-за гангрены, но продолжавший защищать небо Родины. Герой Советского Союза, совершивший 86 боевых вылетов и сбивший одиннадцать самолетов противника. С 1934 года работал в Комсомольске-на-Амуре по комсомольской путевке. Одним из первых записался в созданный в городе комсомольцами аэроклуб. Почетный гражданин Комсомольска-на-Амуре (7 июня 1977 г.)

Советский партийный и государственный деятель, первый (с 1966 года - Генеральный) секретарь ЦК КПСС (1964-1982), Председатель Президиума Верховного Совета СССР (1977-1982). Посетил Комсомольск-на-Амуре 8 апреля 1978 года в ходе поездки по Восточной Сибири и Дальнему Востоку.
