Aber die Luft hier ist schlecht.“ — „Was?“, schrie der Löwe. „Wie sprichst du mit deinem König?“ Und er zerriss den Bären in Stücke1 Als zweiter ging der Wolf in das Schloss. Er wusste schon von dem Unglück des Bären und dachte: „Ich muss klüger sein.“ Er kam ins Schloss und der Löwe zeigte ihm alle seine Zimmer und fragte: „Wie findest du mein Schloss?“ Der Wolf antwortete: „Ich finde es wunderbar! Und wie gut ist die Luft in deinem Schloss! Wie herrlich riecht2 es hier!“ — „Was?“, schrie der Löwe. „Warum lügst du so?“ Und er zerriss auch den Wolf in Stücke. Das alles hörte der Fuchs. Er kam als dritter ins Schloss. Der Löwe führte ihn durch seine Zimmer und fragte: „Wie gefällt es dir bei mir?“ Der Fuchs antwortete: „Oh, es gefällt mir sehr gut. Dein Schloss ist herrlich.“ Der Löwe fragte weiter: „Und wie findest du die Luft in meinem Schloss?“ Da antwortete der schlaue Fuchs: „Über die Luft kann ich nichts sagen. Leider habe ich mich erkältet3. Ich habe Schnupfen4 und rieche gar nichts.“ Der Löwe lachte nur und der Fuchs kehrte glücklich nach Hause zurück.

Лев, король зверей, однажды заболел. Многие животные пошли к нему во дворец, чтобы его навестить. Замок короля находился в горе и не имел окон. Его нельзя было проветрить, поэтому воздух в замке был очень плохим.
Первым ко льву пришёл медведь. Лев провёл его по комнатам и спросил: "Тебе нравится мой замок?" Медведь совершенно открыто ответил: "Мне очень нравится твой замок, но воздух здесь плохой." - "Что?!", - вскричал лев. "Как ты разговариваешь со своим королём?!" И порвал его на кусочки.
Вторым в замок пошёл волк. Он знал о несчастье медведя и думал: "Я должен быть умнее." Он вошёл в замок, и лев показал ему комнаты и спросил: "Каким ты находишь мой замок?" Волк ответил: "Я нахожу его великолепным! А как же хорош воздух в твоём замке! Как изумительно здесь пахнет!" - "Что?!", - вскричал лев. "Почему ты так врёшь?!" И порвал волка на куски.
Всё это слышала хитрый лис. Он вошёл в замок третьим. Лев провёл его через свои комнаты и спросил: "Тебе нравится у меня?" Лис ответил: "О, мне здесь очень нравится. Твой замок изумителен!" Лев спросил дальше: "А как тебе воздух в моём замке?" Тогда хитрый лис ответил: "Про воздух я ничего не могу сказать. К сожалению, я простыл. У меня насморк и я ничего не чувствую."
Лев только посмеялся и лис, счастливый, вернулся домой.

It smells so delightful here!" - "What?" shouted the lion. "Why are you lying like that?" And he tore the wolf to pieces as well. The clever fox heard all of this. He entered as the third one in the castle. The lion led him through his rooms and asked, "How do you like it here with me?" The fox replied, "Oh, I like it very much. Your castle is splendid." The lion continued, "And how do you find the air in my castle?" Then the clever fox replied, "I can't say anything about the air. Unfortunately, I have caught a cold. I have a stuffy nose and can't smell anything." The lion just laughed, and the fox returned home happily.
