(make) them both a cup of coffee. This is what Liz (5) ….. (tell) me: ‘We (6) ….. (sleep) in our bedroom when we (7) ….. (hear) a loud voice coming from your kitchen. So Alan and I (8) ….. (decide) to investigate. We (9) ….. (come) to your garden, but couldn’t see any lights on. People (10) ….. (talk) in the kitchen, though! So, we (11) ….. (think) that we should call the police. Just then, you (12) ….. (turn) the light on in the kitchen, and we (13) ….. (see) that everything (14) ….. (be) all right. So, we (15) ….. We (9) came to your garden, but couldn't see any lights on. People (10) were talking in the kitchen, though! So, we (11) thought that we should call the police. Just then, you (12) turned the light on in the kitchen, and we (13) saw that everything (14) was all right. So, we (15) stood in the garden wondering whether to say hello to you or not, when you (16) opened the kitchen window and (17) said hello to us!" That (18) explained almost everything.
