В вопросительном предложении перед подлежащим нужно использовать вспомогательный глагол do в прошедшем времени — did, а после подлежащего поставить основной, значимый глагол в начальной форме.

При составлении специального вопроса добавляется вопросительное слово в начале предложения. (Вопросительное слово+did+подлежащее + глагол?)

General Questions in Past Simple Tense

General questions in the Past Simple tense are formed by using the auxiliary verb "did" followed by the base form of the main verb. The subject comes before the auxiliary verb "did". Here are some examples of general questions in the Past Simple tense:

- Who called him?- What brought you here?- Who deserved the first prize?- Who loved you?- Who helped grandma on weekends?

Special Questions in Past Simple Tense

Special questions in the Past Simple tense are formed by using question words (who, what, where, when, why, how, how many, etc.) followed by the auxiliary verb "did" and the base form of the main verb. Here are some examples of special questions in the Past Simple tense:

- Who walked in the park?- When did you meet Kelly?- How old is your new friend?- What kind of fabric is this? In special questions, the question word replaces the subject of the sentence. The auxiliary verb "did" is still used to form the question.

Example Sentences:

- They played tennis. Who played tennis?- They were in the car. Who was in the car? Remember to use the auxiliary verb "did" in general questions and special questions in the Past Simple tense.
