The Story of Hachiko

Hachiko was an Akita Inu puppy who was being transported from Japan to America. During the delivery process, the crate he was in got damaged, and Hachiko managed to escape. He was found by Professor Wilson (played by Richard Gere) who decided to take him home. However, they couldn't determine who Hachiko belonged to, so the professor ended up keeping him as part of his family.

The Akita Inu breed is known for being intelligent, loyal, and proud. They have a tendency to choose their own owners, just like Hachiko did with Professor Wilson. The professor raised him, played with him, and took care of him. Every day, Hachiko would accompany the professor to work and wait for him at the train station when he returned.

The professor used to play fetch with Hachiko, throwing a ball for him to retrieve. However, Hachiko would only watch the ball and stay in place, refusing to fetch it. Someone told the professor that Hachiko would never chase after balls or engage in such activities because he considered them foolish. Instead, Hachiko would only do it at a special moment.

That special moment came when the professor had a heart attack and passed away. Hachiko, sensing that his owner was leaving for the last time, brought the ball to him as a final tribute. This act showed the deep bond and understanding between Hachiko and the professor.

After some time, the professor's family moved to the city and took Hachiko with them. However, Hachiko couldn't bear to live without his beloved owner and the hope that he would return on the train to play with him. He escaped and returned to his hometown and the train station where he used to wait for the professor twice a day for 10 years.

The townspeople took care of Hachiko, providing him with food and shelter. When Hachiko passed away, the people of the town erected a statue in his honor at the train station. The statue still stands today as a symbol of Hachiko's unwavering loyalty and friendship.
