A funny story happened to me last summer when I was visiting my grandmother in the country. That was a wonderful place - lush greenery, thickets of juicy and ripe raspberries, fruit trees, in the branches of which it's very funny to climb to pick a ripe apple or a fragrant pear...  However, in the evenings we noticed a very strange noise from a nearby abandoned area, densely overgrown with bushes. It seemed like a terrible beast was hiding somewhere there. Once when the adults left us for a short period of time,  my younger sister and I heard a terrible noise behind the fence.  It was accompanied by the crunch of branches and the rustle of last year's leaves. As an elder brother and my sister's protector, I rushed into the barn and grabbed the first thing that came to hand – a large shovel. And even my little sister ran after her sand scoop. With such a frightening "weapon" we froze at the gate, waiting for the appearance of the terrible monster, and preparing to fight back. What our surprise was when a tiny hedgehog crawled out from under the fence with a funny black nose and beady small eyes. He busily puffed and stamped, creating the same rustle and crunch, which we were so afraid of every evening. At the same time, our relations appeared, catching us in a warlike pose. This funny incident amused everyone, and my sister and I were ashamed of our ridiculous fear. Since then, we know that adult hedgehogs and even baby hedgehogs are able to make a very strong noise.

Это было замечательное место - пышная зелень, заросли сочной и спелой малины, фруктовые деревья, по ветвям которых очень интересно лазить, чтобы сорвать спелое яблоко или ароматную грушу...  Однако по вечерам мы замечали очень странный шум с близлежащего заброшенного участка, густо заросшего кустарником. Казалось, где-то там прячется страшный зверь. Однажды, когда взрослые оставили нас ненадолго, мы с младшей сестрой услышали страшный шум за забором.  Это сопровождалось хрустом ветвей и шелестом прошлогодней листвы. Как старший брат и защитник сестры, я забежал в сарай и схватил первое, что попалось под руку – большую лопату. И даже моя младшая сестра побежала за своим совочком для песка. С таким пугающим "оружием" мы застыли у ворот, ожидая появления страшного монстра, и готовясь дать отпор. Каково же было наше удивление, когда из-под забора вылез крохотный ёжик с забавным черным носиком и маленькими глазками-бусинками. Он деловито пыхтел и топал, создавая тот самый шорох и хруст, которого мы так боялись каждый вечер. В то же время появились наши родственники, которые застали нас в воинственной позе. Этот забавный случай всех развеселил, и нам с сестрой стало стыдно за наш нелепый страх. С тех пор мы знаем, что взрослые ежи и даже маленькие ежики способны издавать очень сильный шум.
