Hi, Jackie!

I like holidays very much. We celebrate a lot of holidays in Russia: Christmas, New Year's Day, Women's Day, Easter, May Day, Victory Day, Independence Day. Do you celebrate such holidays in Britain? Usually people spend holidays with their families and friends. My favourite holiday is New Year's Day. I like decorating a New Year tree with balls, toys and lights. We put presents and gifts under the New Year tree. We have a special dinner in the evening. When the clock strikes midnight, we make a wish. We have a lot of fun this New Year night!

Do you like New Year's Day? How do you celebrate New Year's Day in Britain?

Dear Jackie,

I hope this letter finds you well amidst the busy Christmas card writing and cooking with your mum. In Russia, we do celebrate Christmas, but our main celebration takes place on January 7th, following the Orthodox Christian calendar. It's a significant religious holiday, and many people attend special church services and enjoy festive meals with family and friends.

As for holidays in my country, we have various celebrations throughout the year. New Year's Eve is one of the most anticipated events, where people gather, exchange gifts, and watch fireworks. We also have International Women's Day, Victory Day, and various folk festivals that vary by region.

Now, I'm curious about British holidays. What are the most cherished traditions during Christmas and how do you celebrate it? Are there any unique regional celebrations in the UK that you particularly enjoy? Lastly, do you have any special holidays or festivals that aren't well-known outside of Britain?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Sending lots of love!

Best wishes, [Your Name]
