In my case, I've worked for several nonprofits in the past, and became deeply disenchanted with the practice of using donations on high executive salaries. It has nothing to do with the compensation itself - it's just it's not reasonable given that 90% of the amount goes towards things other than actual mission of the nonprofit.
Due to this, I refuse to donate to organizations, and instead seek out actual people in need within my community (and surrounding areas). I need a degree of assurance that my donation will go towards the goal.
I am very passionate about kids and family.
My charity of choice is a local battered women's shelter (women and children). I get lists from them (with personal information removed) and get items which are on those lists - clothing, personal care items, presents, etc, guided by the sizing requirements and sometimes fashion styles.
These expenses are actually smaller than the donation and eliminates the need for money to enter the equation, thus enabling me to donate more often than I would have otherwise.
(On a personal level, it is also satisfying that I can go shopping but with an entirely different mindset and for a good cause - instead of pennies of my purchase to be sent to the charity by the corporation, 100% of it goes exactly where I want it to be sent to; plus, it is returning back to benefit disadvantaged persons in my own community).

Title: How to Help Needy Children
Introduction:
Children are the most vulnerable members of our society, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure their well-being and provide them with the necessary support to thrive. Unfortunately, many children around the world face challenging circumstances, often due to poverty, conflict, or neglect. As compassionate individuals, we can make a significant difference in their lives by offering our assistance and support. This essay will explore various ways in which we can help needy children and contribute to building a brighter future for them.
- Support NGOs and Charitable Organizations:
Numerous non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and charitable institutions work tirelessly to provide aid and support to needy children. By donating funds or volunteering with these organizations, we can directly impact the lives of children in need. These organizations often focus on providing essentials like food, clean water, education, and medical care to underprivileged children, helping them break free from the cycle of poverty.
- Sponsor a Child's Education:
Education is a powerful tool that can transform a child's life and open up opportunities for a better future. Many children from impoverished backgrounds lack access to proper education. By sponsoring a child's education, we can ensure they receive the necessary resources, such as school fees, uniforms, books, and stationery. This support not only empowers the child but also benefits the entire community in the long run.
- Volunteer in Local Communities:
While global efforts are essential, we must not overlook the children in our own communities who may be in need. Volunteering at local shelters, community centers, or schools can make a significant impact on the lives of needy children right in our neighborhoods. Spending time with these children, mentoring them, and providing emotional support can positively influence their development.
- Promote Awareness:
Raising awareness about the issues faced by needy children is crucial to garner support and resources. Utilize social media, community events, or educational campaigns to spread information about the challenges these children encounter and the ways in which people can help. Increasing awareness can inspire more individuals and organizations to join the cause.
- Encourage Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):
Encouraging businesses to engage in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives can significantly aid needy children. Many companies allocate a portion of their profits to support social causes. By patronizing such businesses and advocating for CSR, we can indirectly contribute to helping children in need.
- Support Foster Care and Adoption Programs:
For children who have lost their families or are unable to live with them due to difficult circumstances, foster care and adoption programs offer a chance for a stable and loving home. Supporting these programs or considering adoption can provide a nurturing environment for these children and give them the care they deserve.
Conclusion:
Helping needy children is not only a moral imperative but also an investment in the future of our society. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can create a ripple effect that transforms the lives of children in need. By supporting NGOs, sponsoring education, volunteering, raising awareness, encouraging CSR, and promoting adoption, we can collectively work towards building a world where every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive. Let us unite in this noble cause and create a brighter and more compassionate future for all children.
