Until now, no matter how hard scientists tried, the depth of the mountain reservoir has not been established. Esotericists talk about a portal to a parallel world through its double bottom. Folk legends tell of sabbaths of devils, dances of mermaids and the ghosts of two lovers. But one thing is known for sure: whoever once visited its shores will never forget this place ...

There is a legend among the people that when the great Creator created the earth, from his bag he generously scattered precious stones from the heavenly height. Falling, they turned into turquoise-blue reservoirs, picturesque mountains and forests, looking up at the sky. But the Kazakh received only endless steppes and swaying feather grass. Then, calling to the Creator, he asked him to give him at least a little gift of space. The Creator scraped the last out of the bag and scattered picturesque mountains with whitening peaks, lakes with crystal-clear water in the middle of the endless feather-grass steppe, scattered emerald meadows covered with rich colors of flowers with a generous hand, streams with cold water ran briskly and merrily.

Mermaids, ghosts, shaitans

One of the most mysterious places in the Karkaralinsk mountain range is Lake Shaitankol. My acquaintance with this mysterious place filled with legends and beliefs happened in my student years. Then the students of the Faculty of History of Karaganda State University were sent to summer practice to study nature, folklore and ethnography of the Karkaralinsk National Park.

We were settled in a barrack building a few kilometers from the city itself. About fifty sophomore students instantly scattered across the territory of the base, peering curiously into the mountains. It must be admitted that many of us are accustomed to living in urban oases, while others have come from villages surrounded only by the steppe. And then an incredible landscape unfolded in front of naive eyes - rocky mountains, as if piled on top of one another, and evergreen forests breaking out of them. The yellow-mouthed students had to travel ten days along and across the Karkaralinsky mountain range.

The rise began at seven in the morning. After washing with spring water and having a bite to eat with a simple breakfast, we hit the road. On average, about 20 kilometers in July heat, we walked in single file along the beaten paths of the national park. The grotto, Lake Pashino, Tasbulak, Small and Big lake, one after another, engraved in our memory. On the way, we collected plants for the herbarium, watched nimble squirrels, took pictures with bright red fly agarics and drank water from springs. It was impossible to imagine more romance then.

Sure, here's a Ukrainian legend related to the weather:

Title: The Legend of the Rainmaker

Long ago, in the heart of Ukraine, there lived a wise old man named Ivan. Ivan was known throughout the village for his extraordinary ability to predict and even influence the weather. He was often referred to as "The Rainmaker."

One hot summer, when the land was parched, and the crops were withering, the villagers turned to Ivan for help. They begged him to bring rain to save their fields and ensure a bountiful harvest. Ivan agreed to try, but he warned them that his power was not limitless.

Ivan climbed to the top of a nearby hill, carrying a small clay pot. He raised the pot high above his head and began to chant ancient incantations passed down through generations. He closed his eyes, focusing his energy on the skies.

For hours, Ivan stood there, chanting and praying. Suddenly, dark clouds gathered in the sky, and a gentle breeze began to blow. Drops of rain fell from the heavens, first as a light drizzle and then as a steady downpour. The villagers watched in awe as their fields soaked up the life-giving moisture.

The rain continued for days, revitalizing the earth and quenching the thirst of the land. The crops flourished, and the villagers rejoiced, thanking Ivan for his incredible gift. The legend of "The Rainmaker" spread far and wide, and people from distant lands came to witness his remarkable abilities.

As Ivan grew older, he knew that his time on this earth was coming to an end. On his final day, he climbed the hill one last time, holding the same clay pot. With a final, powerful chant, he summoned a gentle rain that fell like tears from the heavens.

Ivan's spirit became one with the rain, ensuring that the land he loved would never suffer from drought again. To this day, when rain is needed most, the villagers say it is the spirit of Ivan, the Rainmaker, who watches over them, providing them with the weather they need to thrive.

And so, the legend of Ivan, the Rainmaker, lives on, a testament to the power of one person's connection to the land and the weather, and the enduring spirit of Ukraine.
