Marie Curie was a scientist. She was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1867, and although she lived and worked in Paris, France, she was of Polish nationality. She met her husband, Pierre Curie, while they were both studying at the University of Paris, and together they conducted groundbreaking research on radioactivity, which eventually led to the discovery of radium. Many of the teachers at the university initially opposed Marie's presence as a lecturer because she was a woman. However, in 1906, she made history by becoming the first woman to teach at the university, three years after becoming the first woman to win a Nobel Prize.
