The political system of Russia can be described as a semi-presidential republic with a strong centralized authority. It is characterized by a combination of both presidential and parliamentary elements.

At the center of the political system is the President of Russia, who serves as the head of state and the highest authority. The president is elected by popular vote for a term of six years and has significant powers, including the ability to appoint government officials, veto legislation, and conduct foreign policy. The president also serves as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

The legislative branch of the Russian government consists of the Federal Assembly, which is bicameral in nature. It comprises the State Duma (the lower house) and the Federation Council (the upper house). The State Duma is composed of 450 members who are elected for a term of five years. The Federation Council consists of representatives from each of the 85 federal subjects of Russia.

The political landscape in Russia is dominated by the United Russia party, which has close ties to the government and holds a majority in the State Duma. Other political parties exist, but they often face challenges in gaining significant representation and influence.

Critics argue that the political system in Russia lacks genuine competition and that the government exerts control over the media and restricts political dissent. They also raise concerns about the concentration of power in the hands of the president and his ability to influence the judiciary.

In recent years, there have been debates and discussions about potential political reforms in Russia, with some advocating for a more decentralized system and greater checks and balances. However, the current political system remains largely unchanged, with the president playing a central role in shaping the country's policies and direction.
