При этом вещества извлеченные из почвы во время роста растения возвращаются обратно в почву, когда растение умирает и перегнивает, чтобы следующей весной новое растение смогло вырасти и использовать эти же вещества.
  В культурных сообществах не происходит возврата веществ обратно в почву. Человек собирает урожай и оставляет на зиму голое поле. Чтобы земля плодоносила и в следующий год, людям приходится искусственно удобрять почву. Поэтому такие сообщества не устойчивы, они не способны поддерживать круговорот веществ самостоятельно.
