Онегин, типичный представитель своего времени, которому наскучило общество, которого одолевает сплин. Татьяна ему приглянулась, он сказал Ленскому, что лучше уж влюбиться в Татьяну, чем в Ольгу.

Ленский позвал Онегина на именины Татьяны и Онегин, узнав, что на праздновании будет лишь круг самых близких людей, согласился.

Но на празднике оказалось довольно много гостей, да и Татьяна начала смущаться и краснеть - что очень бесило Онегина, так как он вспоминал многочислекнные уловки светских дам, так наскучивших ему в свое время.

Онегиен рассердился и стал уделять все свое время Ольге. Для него это был ничего не значащий вечер, он хотел позлить друга за то, что то обманул его. Зная, как Ленский любит Ольгу, танец Олегина с ней, по сути, был предательством.

Ленский же стал танцевать с Татьяной.
