Благодаря делению клеток

How Bone Growth Occurs
Bone growth occurs through a process called ossification, which involves the formation of new bone tissue. There are two main types of bone growth: longitudinal growth (growth in length) and appositional growth (growth in thickness).
Longitudinal Growth: Longitudinal growth refers to the increase in bone length. It primarily occurs at the growth plates, also known as the epiphyseal plates or growth zones. These growth plates are located near the ends of long bones and are responsible for the lengthening of the bone during childhood and adolescence.
The process of longitudinal bone growth involves the following steps:
1. Resting Zone: The resting zone is the region of the growth plate where the cells are relatively inactive. 2. Proliferative Zone: The proliferative zone is where the cells undergo rapid division, leading to an increase in the number of cells. 3. Hypertrophic Zone: The hypertrophic zone is where the cells enlarge and mature. 4. Calcification Zone: In the calcification zone, the cartilage cells undergo mineralization, which leads to the formation of bone tissue. 5. Ossification Zone: The ossification zone is where the newly formed bone tissue replaces the calcified cartilage, resulting in bone growth.
Appositional Growth: Appositional growth refers to the increase in bone thickness. It occurs on the outer surface of the bone and involves the addition of new bone tissue to the existing bone. This process is regulated by cells called osteoblasts, which deposit new bone tissue, and osteoclasts, which remove old bone tissue.
The process of appositional bone growth involves the following steps:
1. Osteoblast Activity: Osteoblasts deposit new bone tissue on the outer surface of the bone, forming layers called lamellae. 2. Osteoclast Activity: Osteoclasts remove old bone tissue from the inner surface of the bone, creating a cavity called the Howship's lacuna. 3. Remodeling: The balance between osteoblast and osteoclast activity ensures that bone growth occurs while maintaining the overall shape and structure of the bone.
