Я думаю, вирус попадал в живой организм (например в организм человека), человека проверяли и находили вирус.

Первый вирус который был обнаружен - это вирус табачной мозаики. До этого были известны бактерии, но о вирусах никто ничего знать не знал.. и вот в 1892 году Дмитрий Ивановский фильтровал препарат больных растений на наличие бактерий. Но как бы ни фильтровал - все-равно раствор оставался заразным.. и тогда возникло предположение, что это не бактерии, а что-то другое, что-то еще более маленькое
